First, Tourette’s syndrome affects 1 of every 100 Australian people and 1 of every 162 children. Accompanying some of these people come to the swearing tics which 10% of the people that have Tourette’s develop. Tourette’s syndrome is 4 times more common to happen in males than females. Therefore, this being said what exactly is Tourette’s? Well, Tourette’s syndrome is explained as by many of the people who have it is a neurological condition in the brain that makes you say or do things that cannot be controlled or contained. Moreover, these involuntary movements are called tics. These tics involve being verbal or physical. In one of the videos it showed one of the three males having a tic called paralysis tic as he explained it, it is when you drop to the floor and you can’t move periodically. The exact cause of a tic is still being investigated so there is no exact cause.

In addition, some who have Tourette’s have different ways to cope with it. Some ways to cope with it which are shown in the videos are music and another way to restrain it from happening too much is biting the string of a hoodie. James, one of the males in the video, said to naturally cure it in a period of time is to be in good head space. They use these mechanisms to reduce their tic, being in public may be a trigger for tics. Adam Landell in the video, Talk to guys living with Tourette’s Syndrome, stated, “you lose focus of absolutely everything around you”. This means that the way you cope help in the reduction of the amount of tic you have since you lost focus on it.

Moreover, families who have Tourette’s amongst them seem to realize they can’t go out as much anymore not because they are ashamed but because they might not want to be a disturbance to the surrounding people. They are aware that people are going to look at them, or they may be approached by curious or people’s opinion. This might the reason some families resort to isolation. The people who have Tourette’s may not want to hurt or offend anyone or vice versa since the action are involuntary. It is easier to get into a negative headspace since most will see it as negative if others speak as if it is.
